It’s not even a week into 2020 and there’s already a fish that was sold for $1.8 million. This was the second highest auction for this fish. The most expensive bluefin tuna ever sold was last year, again in Japan, which was caught off the coast of Norway.
The fish was bought by a famous Japanese sushi businessman, who is nicknamed the ‘Tuna King.’ This fish was caught off the Aomori region in north Japan.
The fish weighed 276 kg, and was bought by Kiyoshi Kimura (otherwise known as Tuna King), the head of the company that runs sushi restaurant chain Sushizanmai. Even last year, Kimura was the one with the record-breaking auction price. He always knows how to catch the media’s attention with his fish buys.
We’re guessing the fish will become a delicious preparation, most likely sushi, in one of Kimura’s restaurants. “Yes, this is expensive, isn’t it? I want our customers to eat very tasty ones this year too,” he said.
