We have often heard that old is gold but the folks at Casio were not satisfied with this. They wished for something more substantial. Which is why they decided to create a retro Casio Digital Watch out of 18K solid gold.
Uh…I think I saw it before!
Now, as we all know Casio has always strived for excellence and gold is a very challenging material. Which is why it is no surprise that their previous attempt at this the “2015 Basel World Dream Project” GW-5000 never made it to production. That thing simply was not badass enough to survive through Casio’s rigorous testing standards
The “G-D5000-9JR” is the successor of that failure. This time though it seems to have gone through an intensive training regime. Every part of this is cast out of solid 18K gold and this Casio digital watch can take quite a beating. The video below showcases exactly that.
You can see that both of these look quite similar. Don’t worry, I did not make a mistake. This new Casio digital watch looks exactly like the concept they showcased earlier. The only difference is that the positive display of the Dream Project has been replaced with an inverse display in the G-D5000-9JR.
Why did they make it though?
Casio just celebrated it’s 35th birthday and making 35 luxe retro Casio digital watches seemed perfect. After all, this is a gift by Casio to Casio. A testament to their engineering feats. They finally put the gold in old.
Tell me the specs!
The specifications for this watch are outstanding as well. The case size of the Casio digital watch will be 43.2 millimeters in diameter, 50 millimeters lug to lug, and 13.0 millimeters in thickness. The case will be water resistant to a depth of 200 meters.
This makes this Casio digital watch the member of the exclusive club of solid gold, 200-meter-resistant watches. Which coincidentally also come on a solid gold bracelet.
What else does this offer?
On the tech side it has “full auto calendar,” alarm, battery change warning, timer, stopwatch, 38-city time zone. To display the correct current time it has Multi Band 6 terrestrial radio wave reception. Six transmission stations worldwide aid in automatic time correction and calibration. Pretty normal stuff I guess.
If you are worried that all that will suck your battery faster than you finish cola on a hot day, don’t be. This Casio digital watch has a trick to combat this. It comes with “Tough Solar Charging”. This thing is very green in that regard. It as durable as a tree and uses sun like the trees except that it is made of solid 18K gold.
How many kidneys do I need to buy this?
These luxe Casio digital watches will only be sold at select Japanese G Shock boutiques for 7.7 million yen. Or 70,000 freedom dollars (USD). Registration open up on May 15, 2019. Go to gshock.jp to learn more.
