Peanuts that are cultivated with gold infused water are the latest rage in Korea if reports are to be believed. Being cultivated by Golden Woodo in Korea, the demand for these gold peanuts is so strong that it is far outstripping the supply. The peanuts are supposedly economical to grow due to the branding possibilities as well as the price of 12,000 won ($10) for 180 grams (0.4 lb). The peanuts are fed on a diet of gold infused water solution thrice a day. The water which is made by Shinemetal uses a patented technology to infuse nano particles of gold from gold bars and mixed with a water solvent which can be absorbed by the plants through the roots. The resulting product of peanut has 2.09 milligrams of gold per kilo.
According to Golden Woodo, ingesting gold has several health benefits (we have heard this one before – gold filtered mineral water) such as increasing the IQ as well as having anti-aging properties. While currently being sold only in Korea and Japan , there is apparently a huge demand for the product from China. The company is now considering cooking chocolate which has these gold peanuts to cater to the extra demand.
The CEO of Golden Woodo suggests that they are still looking into a variety of products into which they would be expanding. Accordingly, 90% of the gold infused peanuts of the current crop are being held back to use in products such as chocolate, ice cream and cookies which would allow a larger population to get a taste of these golden peanuts.
The company is also looking into making its factory a tourist attraction where people can look at the cooking process as well as tons of golden peanuts all in one place!
