Winemaker Wines That Rock has partnered with CBS Consumer Products to develop a line of “Star Trek”-themed wines.
The line includes a red blend, the Chateau Picard Cru Bourgeois, and Zinfandel, the Special Reserve United Federation of Planets. Both bottles in the collection are available exclusively at StarTrekWines.com.
Chateau Picard Cru Bourgeois is inspired by the fictional vineyard owned by Star Trek Captain Jean-Luc Picard from the series “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Star Trek: Picard.” The latter is scheduled to debut in early 2020 exclusively on CBS All Access in the U.S.
Chateau Picard is also the name of an award-winning, multi-generational vineyard in the Bordeaux region of France. Wines That Rock has teamed with the real Chateau Picard vineyard to introduce the line of 2016 vintage wine.
The Chateau Picard – actually made at a winery named Chateau Picard in eastern France – is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. It is available separately for $60. The label is that of the Picard family’s vineyard, which will be seen in the new series “Star Trek: Picard” series arriving in 2020. The vineyard also appeared at various times during ‘The Next Generation” series and the subsequent films.
The United Federation of Planets wine is a 2017 vintage from Sonoma County, Calif. It is a blend of 87 percent Zinfandel, 12 percent Petit Sirah and 1 percent Syrah. The bottle features the United Federation of Planets seal and the Starfleet insignia.
“Our goal has been to produce small-batch, limited-edition, collectible wines that we as fans want to own,” says Howard Jackowitz, president, Wines That Rock. “This is what we are all about–creating a product that is genuine with a great story behind it.”
What you’re paying here is the fact the bottle also replicates the label seen in the first Picard teaser, so it really is like owning your very own Picard-made wine, a few centuries earlier than you should.
Both wines will be displayed at the Star Trek Las Vegas convention this week, ahead of a special release soon in a “1701 edition” two pack, as well as priority notification to future release in the Star Trek wine collection. Engage that palate of yours and get sloshed, why don’t you?
