Gold And Diamond Contact Lenses
Dr. Chawan was quoted saying People today like wearing diamonds on their teeth, so why not in the eye ? Why not indeed, except that diamonds are the hardest known natural substance to mankind and keeping them next to the cornea does not sound very comfortable.
However the lenses which are encrusted with 18 diamonds each on a gold plate will be sitting 6-9 mm away from the cornea and also hold water to give the eyes a soothing effect. The lens will weigh 5 grams each – once again bringing the comfort level into question.
However the contact lenses are up for a good cause. The profits from the lenses will be used to treat a person suffering from Stevens Johnson Syndrome free of cost.
Only 3,996 such lenses will be produced. Buyers can choose between the yellow colored gold lens ($11,000) and white colored diamond lens for $15,000. The lens can be worn all through the day and can be used throughout the life and has a guarantee certificate for the diamond as claimed by Dr. Chawan. The lens are custom made for each individual.
