Insects are a delicacy in some parts of the world, and a great source of protein. But have you ever considered a dessert with live insects crawling on it?
Madame Spaghetti from Port Melbourne is known for its quirky food. It actually serves gelato in the form of spaghetti as a waffle topping. This Halloween, they have really gone the extra mile and created a special sundae with actual insects on it.
It’s called the ‘Spaghetti-kins dessert’, and it has spice-infused pumpkin gelato noodles. Oh, and there are cinnamon flavoured mealworms crawling over it as a topping. So don’t pick them out if you have this sundae; they’re supposed to be there.
The bugs have been specifically farmed and produced for eating purposes, and are a great source of protein. Who would have thought sundaes could give you your protein intake? Way to take the Halloween spookiness to a new level. Just be warned, though, if you have a shellfish allergy, you might want to stay away from these mealworms, who might produce the same effect on you.
So if you have the heart and the stomach for spooky wormed sundae, visit Madame Spaghetti any time between October 25 to November 3 this year. And if you can’t fathom it, they still have their regular popular flavours such as Trophy Wife the Chris P Bacon, the Kahuna and the vegan-friendly Berry Me.
