Billionaire, rap mogul, husband to Beyoncé… Jay Z has truly lived a full life. The artist and businessman just turned 50, and celebrated in his own true style. He has released a rare $5000 limited edition cognac. This is Hova’s D’Ussé Cognac’s 1969 Anniversaire edition. The brand is jointly owned by Jay Z and Bacardi.
This rare drink has aromas of hazelnut, walnut, and candied fruit like apricot and apple, with subtle notes of leather and tobacco. It was crafted exclusively from 100 percent Grande Champagne grapes then put to bed to age for half a century in the noted Château de Cognac cellars in France.
Before you scramble to get one of these decanters, be warned that the first 50 are going to be reserved for loved ones of Jay Z. The cognac house where D’Ussé is made has been blending liquors for 200 years, but D’Ussé is a more recently established brand. Keith Howard from D’Ussé says, “You need history and aging. You can’t be a successful or respectful cognac if you don’t have heritage. Once this barrel is empty, we won’t be able to produce anything like it.”
The D’ussé 1969 Anniversaire Edition Cognac will retail for $5,000 each. Cognac symbolizes heritage, history, style, and personality. And Jay Z fits the bill perfectly for the quintessential cognac drinker. This is a single barrel discovered by Jay-Z and cellar master Michel Casavecchia, which was specially reserved for his 50th.
