Strong, Rich, Black & Smooth are some of the adjectives used to describe this rum. I must admit this has me thirsting for a taste as I write this article. The Kraken, named after the mythical sea monster as per old Norwish legends is rumoured to never leave any survivors behind. Said to be the cause of the dark black seas off the coast of Norway, the Kraken is straight out of a Jules Verne novel.
The Legend of the Kraken Black Rum
Legend has it that a ship carrying black spiced rum headed for Norway never made it. Barrels of the rum drifted out onto the sea and the rum was consequently renamed after The Kraken. This tribute to the mighty creature was so that future shipments may arrive safely to their destinations.
The pirates who lost their lives battling The Kraken
“To not respect the power of the Kraken is to not respect the sea.”
Speaking of which, we have to say Kraken have one of the coolest billboard ads ever!
Whoever did come up with the story behind the Kraken has a splendid imagination. This black rum is made in the Caribbean with secret spices. As a result, it is imported the world over from there. For a short time only, the rum is available in a limited edition ceramic bottle. We think its going to go really well with these edible gold peanuts.
Shannon Crees, the artist who designed the limited edition bottle
“I wanted my artwork to look like an old rum label, water damaged and worn, alluding to the journey of the bottles lost at sea all that time ago. I was inspired by story book illustration for the wind gods, sky and ocean waves to capture the myth and legend and make the darkness of the tale a little bit more playful.”
