Laphroaig is releasing legacy inspired whiskies as per their tradition. They’re releasing a series and the inaugural one among them is Book One: Unique Character, a tribute to Ian Hunter. He was the youngest member of Laphroaig’s founding Johnson family. He was a controversial figure, but the last family member to own and manage the Islay whiskey distillery.
The Ian Hunter whiskey is a creamy, smooth single malt, which was matured in American white oak barrels. It has aromas of manuka honey, light peat smoke, cooked apple, rosemary and vanilla mingle with lemon peel and orgeat on the nose.
It plays tribute to Ian, who somehow managed to sell Laphroaig to America during prohibition by leveraging the spirit’s unique character, so it could be sold for medicinal purposes.
This 30 year old whiskey represents the tradition of Laphroaig, and only 400, 9L cases will be produced globally. It will be available at select retailers from the end of January, for a price of $2000 AUD.
