You have to hand it to this lady. The only person in history (that I know off) who was so stylish that she specifically asked in her will that she be late for her own funeral – thus grabbing headlines across the world, continues to do so even in her death. A turquoise Andy Warhol portrait of the screen star is to go for auction and is expected to fetch at least a cool 20 million.
Andy Warhols works often go in the millions – but especially so when the subject is the one that is on everyone’s mind for the time being. The current record held by Warhol is 71.7 million dollars for a painting known as the ‘Green Car Crash’.
The painting features Liz with her eyelids in blue eyeshadow – made famous by her during the filming of Cleopatra. The work comes from Warhol’s signature 1960s series of pop-culture icons like Marilyn Monroe and first lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
