Who can forget the good old days when they pitched Pokémon cards against each other. Pokémon is undoubtedly a legendary game, and subsequent TV show. It’s fans still appreciate it so much, that one of them actually paid $195,000 for a Pikachu Illustrator card. It is one of the rarest, and now officially the most expensive Pokémon card ever sold.
On the looks of it, it’s just a regular average-sized 1.69 gram game card. This card is one of the only 25-39 limited copies in existence. The chances of such a card becoming available in the market, let alone in good condition, are miniscule.
It’s not the first time a Pokémon card has fetched such a high price. The previous holder of that record was also a Pikachu card, which cost $100,000 back in 2013. But this one has knocked the price out of the park. These rare cards go through various processes to determine how genuine they are. They are only ever owned by private investors, so their value just goes on increasing. Pokémon cards might be a safer investment than gold, even.
So precious are these cards, that expensive trades keep happening over time. Earlier this year, we had written about a Trainer no. 3 card which got sold $60,000, but went missing while being transported to the new owner. Let’s hope the Pokémon Illustrator’s new owner does not have to go through this trauma of separation.
