Few brands embrace the role of writing instrument as objet d’art as gleefully as the Italian pen manufacturer Montegrappa. In fact, its new limited-edition Samurai is more sculpture than pen.
“I was really intrigued by the details you have on the armors,” “So I thought this would be the perfect subject. But at the same time, we wanted to do something new.” – recalls Giuseppe Aquila, Montegrappa’s CEO
The first model in the Warriors collection, aimed at the most passionate of pen enthusiasts, Montegrappa has launched exclusive edition of Samurai Pen. This edition features fully movable parts, a revolutionary Power-Push filling system and a letter-opener styled after a Katana.
The Samurai Edition
Montegrappa is known as one of the world’s premier luxury pen makers. They have left no stone unturned with their new luxury pen collection known as the Warriors Series.
About Samurai Warrior
The samurai (or bushi) were the warriors of premodern Japan. They later made up the ruling military class that eventually became the highest ranking social caste of the Edo Period (1603-1867). Samurai employed a range of weapons such as bows and arrows, spears and guns, but their main weapon and symbol was the sword.
Samurai were expected to live a certain way of life that represented honour, nobility, and service.
More about the Exclusive Samurai Pen
This unique pen box set includes not only one of most stunning and beautiful writing instruments it also has a unique part action figure and part objet d’art. Its inspiration comes from the Japanese famed Warriors, where it comes in a historically accurate suit of armour, done in painstaking detail using a lost wax technique more seen in the Jewellery industry. The armoured suit is remarkably done in detail with the “kuwagata” helmet, “kote” sleeve armor and layered, embroidered “kusazuri” skirt.
Adorn the design
This ultra-cool luxury fountain pen took three years to complete. The use of cloth is a first for the brand, but fortunately, as an Italian company, Montegrappa had a plethora of stellar textile manufacturers to choose from right in its own backyard. However, the fabrics that were ultimately sourced had to be beautiful but also resistant to ink stains.
A twist of the figurine’s legs unlocks the writing instrument itself—a piston-filled fountain pen with an 18-karat-gold nib. When the pen is in use, the rest of the samurai can be stored upright on an included display stand. Along with the stand, the samurai also comes with a miniature katana that, when unsheathed from its scabbard, can be used as a letter opener. As one would expect from a Montegrappa limited edition, the pen comes in a beautiful black-lacquer display case with the original Chinese character for samurai.
The Samurai Limited Edition consists of only 177 fountain pens in Sterling Silver, as the number 7 is thought to be the number of perfection and security and is highly regarded in Asian cultures.
The Samurai is the first model in the limited Warriors collection and Montegrappa has shown a beautiful way to celebrate the most noble warriors throughout history with the most awesome pen set.
