Yes, we are not kidding. These are some serious grapes that are said to be so tasty that one bite will take you to the doorsteps of heaven. One can say that eating these can be an experience of a lifetime.
What are these called?
The Japanese call these the Ruby Roman grapes because they are as beautiful as ruby and one feels like a Roman royal after eating these.
These red-colored grapes are similar in size to ping pong balls. But, they are not big for the sake of being big. Each one of these grapes is full of delicious juices that burst in your mouth when you take a bite. Each individual grape can weigh as much as 20 grams.

What do they taste like?
On top of being so juicy, these grapes also have a high sugar content and low acidity. Kind of like a sugar candy with a slightly sour taste but instead of it being hard, it is soft and juicy.
Who is buying these?
Apparently, some wealthy individual(s) from Hyakurakuso bought this for a record-setting price in 2019. A bunch of these grapes fetched 1.2 million yen which is approximately $10,000. This means that a single grape costs around $470.
For this amount, you can either buy your significant other an eighteen-carat gold ring with diamonds and ruby studded in it. Or, you can ask them to feed this bunch of grapes to you while you roleplay as an Emperor.

Where do these come from?
Hailing from the Ishikawa prefecture of Japan, these grapes were introduced in 2008 as a premium fruit. Businesses give these as promotional gifts thus making them highly sought after.
To add to that, the growers sell only a few at any time to maintain the exclusivity, demand, and price.

Should you buy one?
Like many fine things in life, if you are someone who can afford these then go ahead and splurge! Just remember to gift a ruby ring to your partner as well so they don’t call you out for this extravagant spending. You can also check out this Buzzfeed video of them trying out these grapes.
