Did you think that wearing a gold bra to the Oscars was ridiculous? Well, how does 44 carats of rubies as nipple covers sound? Amusing ain’t it! Well, that is what Cardi B was rocking during the recent Met Gala. However, that feature of her dress didn’t catch much attention during the Gala. In fact, no one even noticed the fact.
Cardi B wore a lavish, down filled silk and organza gown. The gown was designed by designer Thom Browne. It boasted a sweeping 10-foot train was fully decked out for Cardi to wear. The main feature i.e. the breast covers were decorated with 44 carats worth of rubies.
All in all, the rubies are valued at a staggering $250,000. The gems were specially made by jewelry designer Corina Mihaila Larpin’s luxury jewelry brand Stefere.
What about the dress?
The dress itself was quite stunning as well. It was in an oxblood red hue and was further embellished with hand-embroidered bugle beads. The dress also featured 30,000 burned and dyed feathers which took 35 people over 2,000 hours to make. The look was completed by Pebbled leather platform brogues and a crystal encrusted headpiece by Milliner Stephen Jones. All of which was styled was Kollin Carter.
Larpin told THR the following. “Kollin came to Stefere and asked if we could create ruby nipples for Cardi B. Of course, we said, ‘Yes!’”
“Next challenge was to find the right size and shape to create the perfect pair of ruby nipples for Cardi.” “Now, we think everyone should have a pair of ruby nipples.”
I mean, sure! You do you rich people. You do you.
