Diamond-encrusted Apple AirPods with a marble stand can be yours for $20,000.
If you’re looking to upgrade your earbud game then Ian DeLucca’s exclusive diamond-encrusted Apple AirPods are right up your alley.
First released in 2016, Apple’s AirPods are widely regarded as one of the company’s best products in recent years, with the AirPods offering great battery life, portability, simple charging, easy connectivity, and unparalleled Bluetooth range.
AirPods are so popular that Apple still has trouble keeping them in stock at times, and three years after launch, it’s not uncommon to see an abundance of AirPods out on the street, in movies, TV shows, and everywhere else you look.
As the debut piece in his “NEW MATERIALISM” art series, Los Angeles artist and designer Ian Delucca has created the most luxurious Apple AirPods yet.
The first release from the collection finds DeLucca taking a pair of Apple AirPods and transforming them into the most luxurious earbuds on the market.
The project “guides us into new relationships with the material world,” and is meant to explore the concept of mixing art and commerce together. Each sculpture in the art series will reimagine commercial products in a new form using capitalist design processes.
With a limited quantity of 25 pieces, each custom “Object No.1 AirPods” sculpture set is functional and accompanied by a marble charging station. The AirPods themselves are cast in white gold and embellished with VVS natural, mined diamonds.
AirPods silver metallic tops look like they’ll fit in users’ ears as well as standard AirPods, while their stems are almost completely covered in precisely aligned columns of little diamonds. Even the white and black marble stand looks museum-worthy.
Additionally, each set includes a serial number containing the piece’s edition number and creation date.
The AirPods are available for purchase only via direct message inquiry on the artist’s Instagram page before public release.
