Its not everyday that a living legend allows you into his home, much less the living breathing icon – Tommy Hilfiger whose name is revered across the globe. Tommy along with partner Dee Hilfiger reside in the top two floor condo of the New York Plaza Hotel since marriage in 2008.
The design of the apartment is very chic and urban. The Hilfiger home certainly lives up to its high end expectations. Portraits of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor by none other then Andy Warhol. There is even a stunning Mickey Mouse portrait by Andy (our favorite). Other artists that vie for space in the Hilfiger home are Keith Haring, Richard Prince and graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
For Sebastian, Tommy’s three year old son is a special room called as the Eloise room. Hand painted by the same illustrator that actually creates Eloise (Mr. Hilary Knight) , this is one three year old that certainly enjoys rubbing shoulders with the giants of the art world.
Framed family portraits by noted photographer Annie Leibovitz grace other walls in the home. The best part of the home is easily the wardrobe of Mrs. Hilfiger which is ‘like walking into a private boutique’ (in Dee’s own words).
Both the Hilfigers are extremely fond of shoes – as is evident from the photographs. Mrs. Hilfiger professes her love for Prada and Miu Miu. Her wardrobe is arranged such that the evening shoes are on the higher shelves (since they are prettier to look at) while everyday shoes are at the bottom.
While the apartment of the Hilfigers was worth $50 million when they purchased it, it is sure to be worth a lot more today. The home has four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. Unlike homes of the rich that usually focus on material luxuries, the Hilfiger home is all about style (though it is certainly not wanting in luxuries).
