As kids, most of us probably read or were told of a proverb that said that a pen is mightier than a sword. Of course, as kids, we took it lightly and did not pay much attention to it. However, as we grow old and come face to face with the reality of the world, we realize every day that this is the truth in the modern world.
So, why would one want to own such an expensive pen? Well, it is quite simple actually. In old times, the emperors and the kings used to carry ornate swords to show off their significance and wealth. So, why would the makers of the most powerful weapon of the modern era lag behind!?
This is why this time of the year is very exciting for pen enthusiasts and high-ranking VIPs who want to look cool while deciding the fate of millions.
What is so special about this time of the year?
Montblanc, a renowned pen-making company launches their ultra-luxe collection at this time of the year. As part of their annual ritual, they like to show off the limits of creativity and craftsmanship by creating some wonderful pens. After all, as a company, they like to push beyond the limits of what High Artistry has to offer.
So, as a part of this ritual, they have just launched their High Artistry Tribute to the Great Wall of China. This was a monumental task as they had to condense millennia of history on a small canvas that a pen offers. However, these mad lads pulled it off!
And, we will be giving you the details about the crème de la crème of this collection, the Tribute to the Great Wall Limited Edition 1 Imperial.
Tell me more!
The magnum opus of this collection, this pen is exquisite and has a strong presence. It draws its inspiration from traditional Ming Dynasty artwork and Montblanc has put in a lot of effort to make it historically accurate.
The cap and the barrel are crafted out of 18-karat yellow gold. They house the allegorical dragon which is beautifully sculpted amidst the numerous dazzling sapphires, rubies, tourmaline, and diamonds. A 4.69-carat brilliant-cut diamond adorns the top of the pen like a crown and is held in place by a dragon’s claws.
It gets better!
As if that wasn’t enough, Montblanc also decided to include a mini music box in the cone of the pen to soothe the user after they realize that they just spent $1.9 million on a pen.
Jokes aside, this music box is a craftsmanship marvel and the folks at Montblanc brought in a Swiss automata craftsman to make it possible. The melody of this music box was described as dreamlike and soothing by the folks at Forbes who had the honor of actually seeing this pen in person.
Looking at the sheer amount of dedication, effort, and craftsmanship that went into this, I must agree with the artistic director Zain Kamal when he says that this pen is “a culmination of storytelling”!
