Games, fun and relaxing things that our parents used to scold us for if we spent too much time on them. However, with the passing of time, these games have slowly turned into a serious business, and playing them may end up costing you a million dollars!
Like all things in life, the more attached we are to a thing, the more precious we perceive it to be. This is why, when some kids from the 80s or 90s come across a pristine copy of the game they used to love, they start pawning off their assets to get one.
Case and point the recently surfaced copy of Super Mario 64. This boxed and sealed copy had an ultra-rare rating of 9.8/10 from Wata Games.
What is Wata Games? Well, it is the leading organization at the forefront of video game grading, and this 9.8 rating cements this copy as the most pristine one may ever come across.
What is a 9.8/10 rating worth?
Well, for the buyer of this cartridge, this rating was worth an eye-watering $1.56 million. This valuation set a new world record just days after a 9.0 rated copy of The Legend of Zelda fetched a mind-blowing $870,000. Unfortunately for Zelda, she could not match the coolness of Mr. Mario and lost her crown just two days later.
Don’t be sad though Zelda fans, there is still hope for you all! After all, these ultra-rare cartridges are appearing more frequently. And who knows when someone else with an old copy of Zelda will decide to get his Christmas gift evaluated only to end up earning a couple of million dollars. Thanks, Santa!
